Before forming an LLC in Delaware, a unique business name has to be found. See how to find if the LLC name you want is available to register.
The Corporations Division of the Delaware Department of State maintains the record of business entities filed in the state. The database contains the history of every company or entity that is registered with the Delaware Secretary of State. With the database, you can search to see if the name you want to use for your LLC is available.
The Division holds information regarding the following entities:
- Limited Liability Companies
- Limited Company
- Limited Partnerships
- Limited liability partnership
Below is our simple step-by-step guide of how to find available LLC names in Delaware:
Step 1 – Click to go to the Delaware Department of State’s website to go to the Business Entity Search Page (see the screenshot below for reference).
Step 2. Enter the name of the LLC you want to register in the “Entity Name” field. In this example we will search for “Muscle Asylum”.
As you can see from the screenshot below the name Muscle Asylum is an LLC that is active and in good standing in the state. This means the name can’t be registered by anyone else.
The result of an already registered entity provides a lot of information such as:
- Formation Date
- Entity Name
- Entity Kind (LLC, Corporation, etc)
- Delaware Registered Agent Information
If the result of your search returns “No Record Found”, it is likely the LLC name you want to use is available.
