Before forming an LLC in Florida, a unique business name has to be found. See how to find if the LLC name you want is available to register.

The Corporations Division of the Secretary of State of Florida keeps a database of the records of Corporations, Limited Liability Companies, Limited Partnerships and Limited Liability Partnerships. Any type of domestic or foreign entity registered in the state will have its information stored in the database.

This database is an important tool when forming an LLC as every LLC in the state must have a unique name. By using the database, you can save considerable time as LLC paperwork will be returned should a name be requested that is already registered.

Follow the guidelines below to continue with your search of the LLC names in Florida:

Step 1 – Click to go to the Florida Division of Corporation’s website to visit the Search Page (it will look something like the screenshot below).

Step 2. Enter the name of the LLC you want to register in the “Search your business” field. In this example we will search for “Lawn Barbers”.

As you can see from the screenshot below the name Lawn Barbers is an LLC that is active and in good standing in the state. This means the name can’t be registered by anyone else.

By viewing the full search result, you can find the following information of LLCs in Florida:

If you search does not come up with an exact or similar result, it is likely the LLC name you want to use is available.
