Before forming an LLC in Georgia, a unique business name has to be found. See how to find if the LLC name you want is available to register.
The Georgia Corporations Division of the Georgia Secretary of State maintains records of all business entities registered in the state. The business entity database contains information regarding the following type of entities and companies:
- Limited Partnerships
- Limited Liability Companies
- Limited Liability Partnerships
The Secretary of State has an online database that allows anybody to look up information on these entities. This database is an important tool when forming an LLC as every LLC in the state must have a unique name. By using the database, you can save considerable time as LLC paperwork will be returned should a name be requested that is already registered.
Doing an LLC name search is easy with our simple step-by-step process to make your search easier.
Step 1 – Click to go to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website to go to the Search Page (it will look similar to the screenshot below).
Step 2. Enter the name of the LLC you want to register in the “Search your business” field. In this example we will search for “Muscle Movers”.
As you can see from the screenshot below the name Muscle Movers is an LLC that is active and in good standing in the state. This means the name can’t be registered by anyone else.
By viewing the full result, you can then see the details of the LLC such as:
- Business Name
- Business Type (Limited Liability Company, Corporation, Etc.)
- Business Purpose (optional to fill out)
- Principal Office Address
- Registration Date
- Georgia Registered Agent information
Copies of the Business Formation (Articles of Organization or Articles of Incorporation) and the state of Georgia Annual Report are available to download.
If your search returns a result of “No data found” it is likely the LLC name you want to use is available.
