Before forming an LLC in Alabama, a unique business name has to be found. See how to find if the LLC name you want is available to register.
The Business Services Section of the Alabama Secretary of State is in charge of keeping records of LLCs in Alabama. In addition to LLCs, the Secretary of State has information on:
- Domestic Corporation
- Foreign Corporation
- Limited Partnerships
- Limited Companies
- Limited Liability Partnerships
A business entity that has registered with the Business Services Section can be searched through the state’s online database search tool. This tool is important when forming an Limited Liability Company as every LLC in the state must have a unique name. By using the database, you can save considerable time as LLC paperwork will be returned should a name be requested that is already registered.
Look at our simple step-by-step guide how to use the search tool below to find out whether the LLC name you want to use is available.
Step 1 – Click to go to the Alabama Secretary of State’s Website to the Business Entity Search Page. The page which appears will look like the screenshot below.
Step 2 – Enter the name of the LLC you want to register in the “Name” field. Also select “Domestic Limited Liability Company” in the Type dropdown.
